The Digital Ornamental Stone Mine project proposes a platform for tracing blocks and slabs across the ornamental stone supply chain, from quarrying to commercialization. Its scope includes mineral provenance and the governance mechanisms needed to encourage participation by firms across a fragmented supply chain.

The proposed approach uses blockchain to record information and investigates computer vision methods for identifying physical pieces. It combines three-dimensional block measurements obtained with a stereo camera and texture images to construct identifying signatures that can support traceability.
